The New Compendia Landscape: Reimbursement changes to expect and anticipated impact on manufacturers

Originally broadcast: December 10, 2008

Drug compendia reflect more than the clinical value of pharmaceutical products. Because the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) require coverage of compendia-listed off-label drug uses, the compendia are also tied intrinsically to the products’ financial value.  Changes to compendia can significantly impact a product’s success—positively or negatively. The good news is manufacturers don’t have to be merely spectators to these changes.

View an archived webcast that explores the recent and key modifications to CMS’ utilization of the compendia, the effect these changes could have on manufacturers and how manufacturers can be active participants in the process. Peyton Howell of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group and Loreen Brown of Xcenda discuss:

  • The role compendia play in coverage decisions
  • An overview of the compendia review processes and rating systems
  • How the recent changes affect Medicare, Medicaid and private payers
  • Results from payer market research regarding compendia utilization

Market Value Plan (MVP): A comprehensive approach to developing a product value proposition and reimbursement strategy

Originally broadcast: April 29, 2008

Several external factors have impacted the way pharmaceutical manufacturers commercialize their products and compete in the marketplace. Increasing payer influence, pressure from generic entries and greater focus on comparative product effectiveness all demand that products have sound value propositions. Additionally, the switch from development of traditional, small molecule products to specialty products has expanded the set of reimbursement challenges. These market dynamics have forced brand managers to change their approach to brand planning and product strategy. This case-based webcast presents a comprehensive approach to addressing these issues and developing a sound product value proposition.
